Inclusive Governance & Democracy

Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) promotes inclusive, participatory, and accountable governance by strengthening the capacity of citizens, communities, and local institutions to engage in decision-making processes. WAJ works to ensure that women, youth, marginalized groups, and vulnerable communities have meaningful opportunities to participate in civic and democratic processes. Through community mobilization, awareness raising, capacity building, citizen engagement, and evidence-based advocacy, WAJ supports communities to understand their rights and responsibilities and to engage constructively with public institutions. The organization also promotes transparency, accountability, social inclusion, and responsive local governance. WAJ’s work under this theme contributes to stronger citizen–state engagement, increased participation of underrepresented groups, and more transparent, inclusive, and accountable democratic institutions.

Peace and Social Cohesion

Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) works to promote peaceful, inclusive, and cohesive communities where people of diverse backgrounds can live and work together with mutual respect and understanding. WAJ recognizes that social cohesion is essential for resilient communities, particularly in areas affected by conflict, displacement, disasters, poverty, and social inequalities. Through community engagement, awareness raising, dialogue, youth and women’s participation, and locally led initiatives, WAJ supports communities to strengthen trust, address tensions, and promote positive relationships among different groups. The organization encourages inclusive participation and constructive dialogue to help prevent conflicts and build a culture of tolerance, respect, and cooperation. WAJ’s work under this theme contributes to stronger community relationships, peaceful coexistence, inclusion, and locally led solutions that foster safer, more resilient, and socially cohesive communities.

Sustainable Livelihoods and Poverty Reduction

Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) works to improve the economic well-being and resilience of vulnerable and marginalized households by promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities and reducing the impact of poverty. WAJ focuses on locally appropriate, inclusive, and climate-resilient livelihood solutions that enable communities to strengthen their income, food security, and self-reliance. Through skills development, livelihood support, agriculture and livestock initiatives, enterprise development, access to productive assets, and linkages with available markets and services, WAJ supports individuals and households to develop sustainable sources of income. Particular attention is given to women, youth, vulnerable households, and communities affected by disasters and climate-related shocks. WAJ also promotes environmentally sustainable and resilient livelihood practices to help communities better withstand economic, environmental, and humanitarian challenges. Through these efforts, WAJ contributes to improved household incomes, food security, economic inclusion, and long-term community resilience.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Response

Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) works to strengthen the preparedness, resilience, and response capacities of vulnerable communities facing disasters, climate-related hazards, and humanitarian crises. With extensive experience in responding to floods, earthquakes, displacement, and other emergencies, WAJ combines immediate humanitarian assistance with longer-term disaster risk reduction and resilience-building approaches. WAJ supports communities and local stakeholders to identify risks, strengthen preparedness, promote early action, and develop locally led solutions for disaster management. During emergencies, WAJ provides timely and needs-based humanitarian assistance, with a focus on protecting lives, dignity, and essential services of affected populations. The organization also promotes anticipatory action, community-based disaster risk management, coordination with government and humanitarian actors, and inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups. Through these efforts, WAJ contributes to safer, better-prepared, and more resilient communities capable of anticipating, responding to, and recovering from disasters and humanitarian crises.

Environmental Resilience and Climate Adaptation

Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) works to strengthen the capacity of communities and local institutions to address environmental challenges and adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. WAJ promotes locally led, inclusive, and sustainable approaches that help vulnerable communities protect their natural resources, livelihoods, and well-being. Through climate-resilient livelihoods, community awareness, environmental protection, natural resource management, disaster risk reduction, and adaptation initiatives, WAJ supports communities to better understand and respond to climate-related risks. Particular attention is given to vulnerable households and communities exposed to floods, landslides, water scarcity, changing weather patterns, and other environmental hazards. WAJ also promotes sustainable practices and community participation in environmental stewardship, encouraging locally appropriate solutions that balance development needs with the protection of natural ecosystems. Flood Recovery & Safe Water (District Buner)

WAJ has initiated rehabilitation of the Drinking Water Supply Scheme in Patay Kalay, Village Council Gumbat, Tehsil Chagharzai, Buner, to restore safe drinking water for flood-affected communities. Omar Javed, Director Program Operations, WAJ, visited the area to assess needs and oversee the rehabilitation work. The initiative is supported financially by REHUNAMA Trust and aims to strengthen community resilience and access to essential WASH services.

WAJ Designated Humanitarian Coordination Focal Organization for Mansehra

Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) has been designated by NDMA, Government of Pakistan, as the District Humanitarian Coordination Focal Organization for Mansehra. WAJ will facilitate coordination among government, UN agencies, NGOs, and humanitarian partners to strengthen disaster preparedness, information sharing, joint planning, and timely emergency response, particularly during the 2026 monsoon season.
